Many cruise ships don’t stop in Freeport for longer than a day. That’s okay because you can easily get around the area and see much of what you want to in a limited amount of time. Here are some of the things you can do with a day in Freeport Bahamas.

1.  Lucaya. Your cruise ship will dock around 15 minutes from Lucaya. It’s a good idea to take a taxi van from the pier to this town. They usually run around every 30 minutes and it is pretty affordable at no more than $15. There are a lot of shops, restaurants and bars located in Lucaya. Don’t forget to check out the straw market as well.  Port Lucaya Marketplace has lots of shopping, music and bars within walking distance to one another.

If you want to skip the often crowded beach and enjoy some relaxation and pool time, the Grand Lucayan Resort offers a day pass for just $15. Here you can enjoy the pool as well a the lounge chairs.

Popular restaurants include Taino by the Sea, Banana Bay & Gardens of the Grove.

2.  The Beach. You can always go to the public beach in Freeport. However, if you want to indulge a little. Get a day pass to Taninio Beach Resort. A day pass runs around $20 and you can enjoy watersports and a swim up bar. The beach is nice and it doesn’t tend to get too busy as a lot of individuals don’t want to pay for a day pass. There are shuttles for around $5 from the cruise port to Junkanoo Beach to enjoy the beach. You can also rent kayaks or paddle boats.

3.  Freeport Shore Excursions. Many travelers claim there isn’t a lot to do in Freeport beyond dining and shopping. However, there really are some great things to see, especially if you do so by tour. A jet ski tour of the area is popular and takes visitors to sites like Peterson Cay. For those that like beer, a Bahamian Brewery tour shows visitors how some of the island’s beer is brewed and also includes information about bottling and the chance to try six different Bahamian beers. Dolphin lovers can take part in a dolphin experience tour. It includes the chance to learn about dolphins in addition to swimming with them. For those wanting adventure consider an ATV, snorkeling or scuba diving.

It’s not uncommon for cruise ship passengers to stay on the boat when their ship docks in Freeport. In the past the town was run down and didn’t have enough stuff to do to keep travelers entertained. As you can see there are plenty of things to do with a day in Freeport Bahamas.
