Things to do in the Port Of Ponce, Puerto Rico

Port of Ponce is filled with sandy beaches, a unique culture and a lot of things to explore. Cruise passengers are often delighted to find that they don’t have to go very far in order to find things to fill their time here. These are some of the most popular things to do while in Port of Ponce.

Museo de Arte de Ponce
This is the biggest art museum in the Caribbean. It has quite a few collections of Latin America art as well as over 4,000 permanent pieces. Most of the work was completed between the 14th and 20th centuries. In total there are fourteen different galleries as well as outdoor gardens to explore.

Plaza Las Delicias
Here there are quite a few different things to see. The old firehouse, Parque de Bombas, is a popular spot for tourists to take pictures. It features black and red stripes and an interesting Gothic Victorian and Moorish architecture. Today it houses a small museum. The plaza also has a few statues as well as the Lions Fountain. The Our Lady of Guadalupe Cathedral is also located here and is worth checking out.

La Guancha Paseo Tablado
This beautiful boardwalk is located south of the downtown area. It’s a great place to see the coastline and marvel at the city. There are some local vendors on hand that sell street food as well.

Castillo Serralles
If you are looking to spend your time at a beautiful museum while in Ponce, check out Castillo Serralles. This former mansion is located on a hill and offers an intriguing view of Ponce. While here visitors can learn about the area’s rum and sugarcane production over the years and roam around the beautiful gardens.

Food To Try
One of the best parts about this area is the food. For breakfast, makes sure you visit the Melao Coffee Shop. it located by the Plaza las Delicias and features items like ham, egg and cheese sandwiches and mallorca bread that’s topped with powdered sugar. While in Ponce you must try the homemade ice cream as well. King’s Cream features a variety of fruit flavored treats to try. These include everything from coconut to passion fruit. The shop isn’t much to look at, but there is a reason why there are long lines almost any time of day! It’s the perfect way to cool off after a long day of exploring Ponce.
